Thursday, October 2

You have saved the fine wine until now.—John 2:10.

What can we learn from Jesus’ miracle of turning water into wine? We learn a lesson in humility. Jesus did not boast about the miracle; in fact, he never boasted about his accomplishments. On the contrary, he humbly and repeatedly gave all glory and credit to his Father. (John 5:19, 30; 8:28) If we imitate Jesus by keeping a humble view of ourselves, we will not boast about our achievements. Let us boast, not about ourselves, but about the wonderful God we are privileged to serve. (Jer. 9:23, 24) Let us give him due credit. After all, what good could we possibly accomplish without Jehovah’s help? (1 Cor. 1:26-31) When we are humble, we do not have to take credit for the good things we do for others. We are content with knowing that Jehovah sees and values what we do. (Compare Matthew 6:2-4;Heb. 13:16) Surely, we please Jehovah when we imitate Jesus in showing humility.—1 Pet. 5:6. w23.04 4 ¶9; 5 ¶11-12

You can't walk with God while holding hands with the Devil.

Reflective statement: "Humility is not just a virtue—but a strategy: when we admit our weakness, God’s power is more evident."

How does this point make Humility one of the most important foundational qualities?

  • Since admitting weakness is what activates God’s power in one’s life, humility is not secondary: it’s foundational. Without it, many spiritual tools (prayer, repentance, endurance) are weakened.
  • It transforms humility from being just a moral trait to being a working principle of your spiritual life.
  • It shows that humility is a key spiritual strategy — like “What is the posture of faith that most effectively lets Jehovah work in and through you?” Humility is that posture.

Most of the time we keep our heads down, and say 'I am just one of Jehovah's servants'. But when someone says in a crowded place 'are there any of Jehovah's Witnesses here?' then we raise our heads and say 'here I am, one of Jehovah's Witnesses'. We are humble, but we are bold. We are fearful but we are courageous. We are weak, but we are made strong.

I am not yet wise, but I am on the long road that gets me there - Prov 9:10

Commentary: The miracle of turning water into wine highlights Jesus' humility; he wasn't seeking personal recognition. He always gave glory to his Father, even when performing extraordinary works. This reveals the true nature of wisdom and power: not to show off, but to reflect Jehovah's glory. This miracle also reinforces the idea that the best always comes from Jehovah, at the right time.

Practical Lesson: We should imitate Jesus' humility by avoiding the spotlight for our own accomplishments. Instead, we can direct praise to Jehovah, recognizing that everything we achieve comes from him. This applies to our ministry as well as our family and congregational life. When we serve discreetly and unselfishly, we demonstrate true faith and trust that Jehovah values every act of devotion, even if others don't notice.
